Melbu Systems AS invites input on its climate and environmental work
Melbu Systems AS aims to contribute to a more sustainable society and therefore takes responsibility for our environmental impact. A key part of this effort is our Eco-Lighthouse (Miljøfyrtårn) certification. This means we have established an environmental management system that guides our climate and environmental initiatives and supports continuous improvement. The certification also sets concrete requirements that must be met in the areas of workplace environment, waste/reuse, energy, procurement, and transport. Each year we report data on our activities, producing a climate account along with results and statistics. This information provides a clear overview of our progress and improvement potential and is made publicly available.
Part of the Eco-Lighthouse certification focuses on the interaction between the company and society. We therefore invite customers, partners, and other stakeholders to share suggestions on how the climate and environmental impact of our goods and services can be improved. Your feedback gives us valuable insight into the needs and expectations you have for Melbu Systems in the years ahead.

Statement pursuant to the Norwegian Transparency Act
Fiscal year 2024
The Transparency Act aims to promote respect for human rights and decent working conditions in business, while also ensuring public access to information. This report contains details about the company’s operations, social responsibility, sustainability, and financial position.
Company organisation and scope of operations
Country of production
Melbu Systems is a leading supplier of innovative processing solutions for the fishing, seafood-processing and aquaculture sectors. Our goal is to enable efficient and sustainable production through cutting-edge technology. All production takes place in Vesterålen, Northern Norway, and is conducted under Norwegian laws and agreements. We are organised under Norsk Industri (the Federation of Norwegian Industries) within the NHO employer confederation and observe the applicable collective-bargaining agreements. We have no production abroad.
Markets
Most of our customers are located in Northern Norway, but we also serve clients in Trøndelag and Western Norway. The majority are Norwegian SMEs, and our revenue largely derives from large-scale project deliveries and related service work.
Procurement and suppliers
Our largest purchases during a fiscal year are typically:
- Work clothing and protective equipment
- Vehicles
- Steel
- Plastic materials
- Electrical components
- Finished goods
- Hired-in personnel
- Energy and nitrogen
We monitor these suppliers especially closely, mapping their social-responsibility and environmental profiles. Follow-up is carried out through dialogue throughout the year. Roughly 10–15 suppliers account for about 80 % of our purchases, giving us a manageable overview. While suppliers vary in how well they understand their entire value chains, we have observed growing awareness in recent years.
Corporate social responibility
Melbu Systems is committed to maintaining a high social resposibility in out local community. We regard ourselves as a cornerstone company in the area and actively support local culture and sports activities. We focus on recruiting local workers and seek to use local businesses wherever possible. We work continuously to enhance our positive social and environmental impacts.
Financial performance
We safeguard long-term financial stability through prudent financial management and by diversifying our revenue streams. Melbu Systems AS has recorded healthy growth in turnover and headcount over the past ten years, while reducing its debt ratio during the same period. Most financial risk lies outside our control, linked to customers’ framework conditions and general economic cycles.
Environment
Under the Eco-Lighthouse (Miljøfyrtårn) standards, we report our environmental performance annually, with particular focus on energy, procurement and waste. Steel is our largest input factor, and we have established fixed procedures to minimise scrap and return off-cuts. Owing to our geographic location, electric mobility is not yet practical for service calls, so travel must for now be made by car and plane, although we continually reassess alternatives.
Measures under way
- Supplier mapping
- Digitalisation of the value chain
- Eco-Lighthouse certification and annual reporting
- Sponsorship of the local sports club and cultural festival
- Health checks for employees
- Apprenticeship-place guarantor
Melbu Systems will continue to raise its standards for social resposibility and sustainability. We are proud of our commitment to ethical business practices and look forward to continued growth as a responsible company that contributes positively to society.
